The more basic 8v engines are produced manly for torque - for example a mk1 1.4 punto gt had the same bhp as the mk2 1.8 16v HGT which had vvt, but the GT had more torque due to the turbo. When comparing the 1.2 8v and 1.2 16v engines there should be slightly better emissions on the 16v.

But in the haynes, your looking for the first page of the Chapter titled 'Fuel, exhaust & emission control systems' for this info. It depends what speed you are maintaining but if the revs are below 2-2.5K then changing down to accelerate or go up a steep hill is better for the engine. I have heard it said that an engine is most efficient around it's peak torque, for our 1.2 16v's thats about 4K and seems a little excessive for cruising, also engine brakeing, above about 1 Hi guys Just got a cheap MkII Punto 1.2 (2000) and have a quick question. I'm assuming it's the 8v one but how do you tell the difference between that and the 16v? There's no 16v badge on the back and I didn't see anything under the bonnet (like the conspicuous "Turbo" on the engine of my old Escort TD). You recall incorrectly there are plenty of 16v actives Anyway it does sound like its speed sensor related, speed sensor as Ziggy pointed out feeds in to the steering to alter the rate of assistance depending on speed, obviously this also feeds into the dash for the speedo etc Your diagnostic machine might be able to read the engine ecu which may have picked up a fault with the vehicle speed
Location. Doncaster, United Kingdom. Oct 4, 2005. #1. The October issue of Retro Cars has a useful guide to tuning the Fiat FIRE engines (the 1-litre, 1.1, 1.2 8v and 1.2 16v units found in Unos, Puntos, Cinqs, Seis). So, being the thoughtful and generous copyright fraudster that I am, I've scanned it in for all you forumers to peruse.
i think Brin at the moment is doing a 1.4 Cam upgrade in his 1.2 8v Turbo Punto As for the Cranks, depends if it travels the same Height as the 1.2 engines If it has a longer stroke - then there is a possibilty of too high compression and valve and piston contact As for the Pistons i would have though they were A different size bore?
